About the day

This IST day will introduce students to the basic principles of Ayurveda and how these principles relate to our daily lives.

This workshop is suitable for all levels. There will be a basic introduction on Ayurveda and the emphasis will quickly move to the recommendations related to diet and lifestyle. Ayurveda generally recommends balance in all things but what might bring balance to one may cause imbalance for another. Lifestyle and food are a very tricky business and ultimately, it is important to build a very personal relationship with what you eat and do. This workshop aims to ultimately raise your awareness of what you do and whether it is working for you or not.

By the end of the morning, students will be able to:

1. Identify the five elements and three doshas,
2. Discuss the daily and seasonal routines recommended by Ayurveda.

The afternoon session will introduce the six tastes and apply dietary and lifestyle principles as recommended by Ayurveda to individual constitutional needs.

By the end of the afternoon, students will be able to:

1. Assess their diet against the six tastes and dietary Ayurvedic recommendations,
2. Map out a personal plan that will reflect their individual constitutional needs using Ayurvedic recommendations.

Areas for discussion will include exercise, food, sleep, mental activity, relationships and yoga.

Bring your usual yoga equipment and a light lunch.
