West Midlands Activities

This page sets out yoga events in the region and beyond, sorted by county. They are updated quarterly, in line with publication of the Regional newsletter.

The region is very pleased to welcome entries from all yoga based organisations. Please contact the newsletter editor if you would like to be included here.

The activities listed are not all organised by the BWY therefore the Regional Committee cannot take responsibility for them. The relevant qualifications and training of teachers is given wherever possible.

Rise! Yoga as peace in action The Global Mala Project is a call to the worldwide yoga community to cross the borders of our mats, studios, schools & styles of yoga to come together to experience the power of collective practice and sacred action.
The collective practice will be a rejuvenating & empowering vinyasa sequence based around the scared number 108. The sacred action is raising funds & awareness for specific projects addressing that which we can prevent with urgent peaceful action: global warming, Aids and poverty.
Please come join us for an afternoon of vinyasa, music, pranayama & meditation and help to breathe the change we want to envision the world during the UN International Day of Peace!

One Day Meditation Course

ROB NAIRN MEDITATION MASTER AUTHOR & INTERNATIONAL LECTURER
Stafford Dharma Group has the great pleasure of announcing that Rob Nairn will be teaching a one day meditation course In 1964 Rob was asked by HH the Dalai Lama to teach meditation. Rob resigned as professor of criminology at the University of Cape Town in 1980 to follow his spiritual path.
Rob’s objective is to teach meditation and Tibetan Buddhism to all who are interested, as well as at graduate and undergraduate level in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Africa and the United States through universities and Dharma Centres. His unique mix of training and experience in law and psychology as well as having been instructed by eminent meditation teachers enables him to explain meditation methods as well as traditional Buddhist concepts from a Western psychological perspective. Rob Nairn is author of
‘Diamond Mind', Tranquil Mind' and 'Living Dreaming Dying'.
Course information
Teachings on Calm Abiding Meditation, and meditation practice sessions and ample opportunity for discussion.
Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Rob has been trained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, but the course is open to people of all faiths (or none) to attend, and suitable for beginners or more experienced meditators.
Time: 10am – 4pm. Please bring a vegetarian lunch to share

A Yoga Workshop

A day of serious fun and development for anyone who enjoys yoga and wishes to enhance their practice. We will be exploring ways to create harmony in your life through movement, sound and natural rhythms as defined in the classical yoga texts.
A chance to create your own regular practice routine to suit your needs in your time and space. A day for all abilities and disciplines - beginners welcome.
Tony has been practising and studying yoga for more than 25 years and teaching for 12 years. He is a Prison Phoenix Trust trained yoga teacher, as well as British Wheel trained.

We will be staying at St Martin’s College where you will have your own room with showers and baths close by. The accommodation is very comfortable and the veggie food is ‘cordon vert’. The holiday will include 3 practices each day and a guided walk either into mountains or round lakes. There will be plenty of time for your own exploration and relaxation.

GUERNSEY Oct 19 - 25 We will stay at ‘Les Costils’ near St Peter Port, a lovely retreat centre overlooking the harbour, set in 12 acres of garden. You will have your own room, en-suite and full board. There will be 2 practices of yoga each day and a meditation in the evening, walks on the lovely coastal paths and optional trips to Herm and Sark (ferry from St Peter Port) and a day off for your own explorations.

ISLE OF WIGHT Oct 3 - 5 Our weekend will be based in Freshwater Bay in the south-west at Sandpipers Hotel – a small and cosy hotel offering en-suite rooms and superb food – 3 course dinners.
There will be 2/3 practices a day and a guided walk along the river to Yarmouth one day and out to the Needles and Alum Bay the next.

CRETE Aug 26 - Sep 2 Flights leave Chania or Heraklion on Tuesdays We will be staying in the quiet and scenic northwest of Crete, just south of Kastelli port. Potamida is a typical Cretan village and our practice place is a beautifully converted olive mill with thick stone walls and tiled floors. We eat outside under bougainvillea and grapevines.
Accommodation is either in the Old Olive Mill, village rooms, or if in Astrikas in a hotel with pool.
All en-suite rooms. Venue will depend on group size – see West Crete brochure on booking. Each day will include two practices and a guided walk through mountain gorges or coastal paths with plenty of time for swimming and relaxing. There will be one free day to explore at leisure – we can offer ideas!
The cost of the holiday is £410 which includes ensuite shared room, brunch, a welcome dinner, all tuition, guided walks and transfers from airport. Yoga mats and blocks are provided.
The flight costs approx. £200 which allows you to stay another week on Crete if wanted.
